Should I upgrade the RAM?

I am still thinking whether or not to buy memory for my Samsung NC10. So far, it works great with the original 1GB RAM. It is running dual boot Windows XP and Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5 without any hiccups. In fact, it runs faster in Mac OS X. Windows XP seems to run slower and slower as time goes even though I did not install any programs in it except UEFA Manager 2000. All other programs that I am using with Windows XP are portable applications.

On the other hand, I installed several programs on Mac OS X and it is still running perfectly. Thus, I guess that upgrading the memory will be at later stage and may be not necessary at all.

Christmas lunch …

Yesterday, my office had an annual staff meeting where we talked about the happenings throughout the year and how we can improve our overall performance. The principal was invited and one of my colleagues had been awarded the longest service award. She received a travel voucher for her 25 years of service. That is a long time. Soon after the meeting, we went for our Christmas lunch. My manager, who was on leave, had joined us too. I had a fish skewers as starter, steak as main course and apple tart as dessert.

The Christmas this year seems different from last year. Well, there were more people during last year’s Christmas lunch. This year, one was sick and another one had to escort her family member to hospital. My manager had a minor car accident last week and a colleague fell down on staircases. Anyway, forget about the bad things happening and look forward to having a better new year.

Right at the moment, one of my colleagues is playing through her Christmas collection songs. It has been repeated twice and gosh, it is very loud too. Tomorrow, we will work until 1400. I wonder how crazy they will be.

I have downloaded a free MacJournal software and I aim to copy all the existing posts into the software in order to record them as a journal of myself.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

How slim can you go?

A few days ago, I read The Sun newspaper about the X Factor judge Cheryl Cole. A reader wrote and commented Cheryl Cole must be in some kind of diet or weight loss pills in order to have that kind of figure. Cheryl Cole was on a sexy silver dress and the reader even said that he/she can actually count the number of bones that Cheryl Cole has. The reader added that there is no way anyone can have Cheryl Cole’s figure naturally and suggested that Cheryl Cole is a bad role model to the people whole idolize her.

Well, the first thing I thought of was it is possible to have someone with that kind of figure, naturally. I for example could not get any fatter no matter how much I eat. Of course, I believe that there are a lot of people out there who are quite the same as me. Cheryl Cole may or may not be one of the people but it just shows how ignorant people (the reader) can be.

Half day job …

These two days, my office computer took forever to load my profile. It took almost 30 – 40 minutes from boot to a state where I can start doing my work comfortably. Anyway, I logged a support call to our IT department and one of the guys came down to fix it. I was surprised that he just deleted my profile on the computer. I tried that earlier but it did not work. The difference was that I only deleted my profile while the guy deleted all the profiles available. He even said that this kind of things happened when some people work a bit harder than everyone else. Well, was that a compliment?

Our office worked only half day today. I reached home at 1330. Thanks to Microsoft Internet Explorer recent security alert, the IT department had to install the Microsoft Update to all the servers. As a result, we could not use our computer which effectively meant we could do nothing at all. Our department manager was kind enough to let us go but other departments might not have the same fate.

The new housemate is in a very good term with Mee at the moment. They are very good to each other and almost like sisters. Well, that is a good thing because other housemates are like minding their own businesses only.

The gift …

This is the gift that I got from the Secret Santa. Guess what? I used the webcam of Samsung NC10 to capture it. Not very clear under yellow lighting but at least, it makes my job easier. I do not have to take out the camera, take a picture of it, connect using cable or take out the memory card, connect to the netbook, blah, blah, blah… Hmm… it is a fridge magnet talking can opener!!! I do not think that Mee and I will use it often but it is kind of cute. Especially the eyes that look like me. And it is one of the characters in family guy. I never watch the cartoon though.

The part that caused the engine warning light illuminated was oxygen sensor. If I were to replace it, it will cost around £60. Hopefully, it will not illuminate again. While I searched for the price of the oxygen sensor, one user actually posted a top tip. I can actually check the engine warning error code myself from the odometer. I just press and hold the odometer reset button and switch on the engine. After that, keep pressing the button and it will show a series of diagnostic on the dashboard. Finally, it will display the error code when it comes to the engine warning light section. Since the car is working fine at the moment, it is unnecessary to test it out. But I should remember this top tip.

Secret Santa …

The weather is good today. Warm in the office but cold outside. I got my car fixed by the college’s tutor. Well, before I made the appointment with the tutor in charge, I actually thought that they would have done a good job. Apparently, this is one of the largest colleges in this area and most of the mechanics out there should be the product of the automotive department.

As for now, he managed to take off the engine warning light and if the light is up again, I should contact him again to replace some parts. Honestly, I do not really know which part he was talking about. But as long as it is safe to drive, I do not care until my next service.

In the office, we had our Secret Santa session before lunch. Everyone was told to buy a gift of £5 value and all the gifts were put in a bin bag with shredded papers. Then, everyone gets the chance to put their hands in the bin bag and grab a gift. I got a fridge magnet talking bottle opener. Funny thing. Some of them got mugs, chocolates, finger nail blower, funny calculator and toys. And tonight, some of my colleagues will have a Christmas party and they are discussing their costumes and stuffs like that. The theme is Monte Carlo. Tomorrow, I believe half of them will not be here since the event will end at 0000 hours.
