More shops closing down

A walk in the town yesterday, Mee and I found out that another two shops are closing down; a shop selling handmade soaps and a shop selling all kinds of cards. In this bad economy situation, all sort of businesses are trying to attract consumers into spending and spending and spending.

Supermarkets like Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury have their own product packaging to indicate that those products are the cheapest available. Some sections such as the wine have a special category called the wine of the month so that consumers will know the best seller wine. Somehow, the most visited section will be the Reduced to Clear section. This is usually crowded with consumers looking for good bargains on any types of products. Hence, in my opinion, individual stores could not really compare their product prices against the big players.

Sutton Day 2

Boxing day… We woke up early and drove our way to London. This was our first time driving experience to London and it turned out not that bad. Although we were a little bit worried about the crowd, traffic and parking, we were fine in the end. We used our Tom Tom navigator and managed to get to Oxford Street with minor problem. Traffic was smooth and we had to park the car a few streets away from Oxford Street.

Our first impression was that there certainly were people getting up earlier than us as well as more serious in getting good bargains in the Boxing Day Sales.

We headed our way straight to Selfridges but were surprised that people were already queuing to get into branded shops such as LV, Gucci and Prada. However, it was quite easy to get into the shopping floors of Selfridges. Looking at the number of shoppers in Selfridges, we decided that to go back later and shop at other stores; Body Shop, Clarks, John Lewis, Debenhams and the likes.

We went back to Selfridges in the evening but there were still people queuing and we gave up. We reached home around 2100 and BBC news reported hundreds of people were waiting outside Selfridges before it opened its doors for business.

More online games

Weeks ago, I made a post about the massive multiplayer online role playing game called NEO Shifter. Since then, there are more and more MMORPG as well as other types of online games available in the internet. Now, you do not have to search high and low for them because most of them are compiled in MEGA Brands. From multiplayer online games to racing online games, what MEGA Brands offers is endless fun and entertainment for any online gamers.

You may not be a gamer but think again. Sometimes, you just need to have some to stimulate your brain. With the variety of online games available in MEGA Brands Kids Zone, I am sure that you will find one which will make you glue to it for hours.

One of the good things of online games is that you do not have to install anything onto your computer and you can play it anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer with internet connection. Since I was introduced to NEO Shifter, I am virtually attracted to this game. Even though I will be back to Malaysia the week after next week, I will still be able to access MEGA Brands play NEO Shifter which is great.

By the way, there are also some short games like the Legends King Arthur which is suitable to play during office break. Check them out now!

Working in the dark …

The access to the college parking is still blocked. I just hope that it will be fixed as soon as possible. It is very cold in the evening and walking across the road to get my car in the freezing weather is not a good experience. Luckily I can switch on the engine of my car easily in this minus degree condition.

Before I bought my Ford Focus, I thought of getting Skoda Fabia. However, there were reviews saying that Skoda Fabia would not start in minus degree weather which kind of worried me. I wonder if it was true as I did not make further googling.

The light above my workplace has to be switched off because it was flickering when my colleagues switched it on in the morning. They had logged a request to replace the light but nothing has been done yet. I am sort of working in the dark at the moment.

Back to work …

The weather is very cold and yesterday, it snowed in the middle of the night. Not a thick snow though. I am back to my normal state; waking up at 0700 and work. My computer is still very slow on startup. I guess that I have to log another support call to the IT support here. The heating at this site of the college is not working and the access to the car park where I normally park my car is blocked because they have to dig deep to fix the heating pipe. As a result, I have to park across the other site of the college.

Guess what? Two weeks from now, my sister, Mee and I will be back to Malaysia! That will be a longer break for me. I already felt a little bit uneasy to come to work because of the long Christmas and New Year break and I was almost late for work today. Apparently, nothing changes and everyone works like our usual self. And they had taken down the Christmas decorations.

What Mee and I have to do now is to pack our luggage. Oh yeah, just few days ago, we grabbed the redundant TV in our rented house and connected it to Virgin Set Top Box. Well, right at the moment, we have abandoned the thought of getting a TV Box which convert a computer monitor to view TV programmes. We will decide a gain after we come back from Malaysia. Anyway, the redundant TV still works fine except it does not have a remote control.

Changes at Sutton High Street

There are a lot of changes in Sutton since the last time Mee and I went there. Some of the shops had closed down and there are new shops too. The corner lot shop selling Kohler sinks is still there but half of the shop is rented to a laundry business. Poundland that sells everything for a pound, opened a new shop in Sutton High Street and Next moved from a medium size outlet to a larger outlet nearby. Sadly, Woolworths and Zavvi are closing down soon. Well, it seems like most businesses are suffering from economy downturn but there are a lot of spending going on everywhere.
