Dilemma

The date has been set. Last week, I was told that the internal website that I am doing will have to be completed with an additional module by the end of May. So, should I put Mee and my plan to New York on hold or should I just go for it? Mind you, summer is not a very good time to be there because of the heat. Anyway, my manager is away for a conference and he will be back on Wednesday. I will discuss with him by then. Another thing that worries me is the strictness of the US border. In UK border and Australia border, they always have a mind set that people are visiting their countries for jobs. Will the US border officers think that we are going there to look for New York jobs instead of touring?

Well, I am thinking of taking some evidence to show that I am working in the UK. It is kind of sad considering that I have a US visa approved by them. However, that was the case when I had my UK student visa and it is still the case even though I have a valid UK work permit. Each time, I went pass through the immigration, the officers have the same kind of look and they would query you as if your visa is not a valid one. Well, that is just how they work anyway.

My Omnia on WM6.5.5

April is approaching. It also means that the new UK tax year is coming. I will definitely be reviewing my ISA account because I believe that HSBC has got the lowest interest rate out of all the ISA accounts offered in the market. I was also thinking about switching my bank account to Halifax as Halifax promises its customers that £5 will be credited if more than £1000 is banked in every month. However, I am still quite happy with HSBC and I have decided to stick to them. What I do not like about is the number of brochures that comes together with my statement. In my recent statement, there are brochures about car insurance, mortgage, health savings account, advance bank account and personal loan. All these brochures will normally go to the recycle bin and that is about it.

Anyway, it is Friday again. I installed the latest Windows Mobile 6.5.5 cooked ROM yesterday and I spot no difference. I might spend most of my time fiddling with my mobile phone this weekend. This new ROM may perform better than the previous ROMs but to me, it is all about reinstalling the software again and restoring my PIM data. Sadly, the person who creates and updates all these cooked ROMs is leaving the scene and I may have to move on to other people out there who cooks ROMs for Omnia. Or maybe someday, I will be cooking my own ROM.

Overtime …

Older £20 with the image of Edward Elgar will not be legal to use after 30th June this year. Read more about this on Yahoo.

Well, I had a long day yesterday. As I mentioned before Mee and I went back to Malaysia, I have to work overtime for four hours every other Monday until the end of June. It is a simple support work to ensure that the computers work fine while potential students take their literacy and numeracy assessments. In coming months, I will also be expected to work more overtime hours because judging from the workload that I have now, it is almost like doing two persons job.

I do not worry too much about it as I always try my best to finish my jobs. We still need to wait for the overtime proposal to be approved. When it is approved, we will then be able to use it if we are out of time. But ultimately, the plan is to have a new MIS person next year.

By the way, tomorrow, my manager and I will be attending a small conference about the issues and incoming plans from our software supplier. Hope that it will not be too boring.

Good HSBC Customer Service

My HSBC online banking account was locked two days ago. Thus, I called the customer service yesterday and I was asked a lot of questions in order to unlock my account. I was even given a hint on one of the questions. I could have guessed the answer but I just told the guy that I could not remember the answer and he offered to give me a hint. My overall experience with the customer service support was good. Towards the end of unlocking my online banking account, the guy told me about the Bank Account Advance which will offer me several benefits such as motor breakdown cover, life insurance quotes, better interest rate on my regular savers account and more. However, I have to pay a monthly fee which in my opinion is not quite worth it. Hence, I told him that I will think about it. As much as I like about getting an insurance policy, I guess that the Bank Account Advance is not for me. One thing that I do not quite like about HSBC is that whenever I contact the customer service through phone or branch, the person serving me has the ability to look at all my accounts. Maybe it is the same with other banks but I just do not like the idea even though I have not got a lot of money in the bank.

We are back …

Mee and I were back to UK yesterday. We arrived at London Heathrow at about 1630 but we were only able to come out from the UK border passport control at 1800. We were tired and waited for 45 minutes for the taxi that we booked. When we were in the taxi, we slept all the way. When we reached home, we saw our new housemate. The Indian guy who lived in the room above us has moved and an Englishman moved last weekend. First impression, good. We just hope that he is not the noisy kind.

Back at our room, we tidied up some of our things but soon after we took our shower, we became very sleepy. As usual, Mee jetlag-ed and I think she woke up at 0500. I do not usually get affected and I slept till the alarm clock sounded.

A few days ago, I saw news about a Please Rob Me website. It searches for tweets around the world for people who have published addresses on their tweets and mentioned that they have left their home for holiday. I believe that a lot of people do not know about this website considering that there are more than a hundred of opportunities added every minute. Cool site, huh?
