While I was doing research on the places to visit in Amsterdam, I realise that Amsterdam is surrounded by canals. Therefore, some of its attractions are actually floating on the canal. Bloemenmarkt is one of them and it is the world’s only floating flower market. Well, when Mee and I were there, we didn’t feel like floating as the market is built steadily on the canal. There are also floating swimming pools in some area and while on the canal cruise, we saw one floating swimming pools with pool lifts. The weather was cold and we wondered why they would still want to swim in an open floating swimming pool.
Nevertheless, there are floating houses too. We were told by our tour guide that illegal floating houses often do not have electricity or water supply. So, do they live on canal water? What about their sewerage system? We never asked though.
