HP Touchpad Fire Sale …

At the moment, one of the hottest topics is about HP’s decision to discontinue its WebOS development, which effectively terminates its tablets production as well as Palm mobile phones. The decision actually shocks the technology world even though the WebOS is yet to be a worthy competitor to Android and iOS. Still, many were eagerly waiting for HP Touchpad and Palm Pre mobiles when they were first announced. And to many, WebOS is different but in a good way. I have never used WebOS before but expert reviews have made me believe that it can be big.

In US, there were already speculations about a huge discount on HP Touchpad where the 16GB model will be priced at US$99. The speculations were correct though retailers and e-retailers do not seem to have the stock. They might not even have any stock in the first place and reducing the price might just be a tactic to lure customers to visit their site. I didn’t hold much hope for UK market but I just found out that HP Touchpad is selling at £89 and £115 for 16GB and 32GB respectively a couple of hours ago. Well, of course they are all out of stock. I would love to grab one when they become available.

Almost perfect Android home screen

I have ditched SPB Mobile Shell 3D now. It’s a little bit heavy in memory usage and the biggest problem that I have, is that it doesn’t support scrolling widget. While the 3D stuffs and other bits and bobs look great, it’s just not practical enough to use SPB Mobile Shell 3D as the home screen. I am sure it will improve later on but for now, it’s just not for me. By the way, it costs £9.12.

I am now on Go Launcher EX (picture). Similar apps with the word EX or Plus or Pro would have been a paid app but Go Launcher EX is free. Free! It looks great and smooth too. It has its own animation stuffs like the transition from screen to screen. Uninstalling apps or games from the app drawer is similar to the one in Apple iPhone. You can even create folder inside the app drawer

Go Task Manager is the best add on. It is a widget that displays all running apps and games. You can just tap on the apps and games that you wish to end or even end all by tapping the ‘X’ button. I can now uninstall all my task manager apps.

Did I mention that it has no ads? Ads can be annoying at times especially when new developer does not know how to position better. A couple of weeks earlier, I installed an app where the ads were positioned right in the middle of the app. The first ad on display was Iphone accessories and I couldn’t really relate an Android phone with an app which displayed Iphone accessories ad right in the middle of the app. How weird and certainly not so coincidence!

Anyway, I kind of configure my HTC Desire to how I want it to look. However, at the back of my mind, I keep thinking that it’s only a matter of time until I get bore with it again, just like the previous custom ROMs and home screens that I have used. I hope not!

Searching for a good Android widget …

I have searched high and low for a good Twitter and Facebook widget for Android. I found one and it’s called Colorize Widget. It’s easy to use and it looks great as a widget. However, it does not work on SPB Mobile Shell 3D as scrolling widgets are not supported. How disappointing? As SPB Mobile Shell 3D is still a new home screen app, I do hope that they will support scrolling widgets in the near future.

While searching for the widget as mentioned, I found two useful apps for Twitter and Facebook; TweetDeck and Seesmic. Their widgets are pretty useless to me; I found that the apps are quite fast and easy. The idea is that I don’t have to have separate apps Twitter and Facebook. Just TweetDeck or Seesmic, I will be able to see both of my feeds from Twitter and Facebook. For the time being TweetDeck seems to be the better app as I can see all the feeds by just swiping the app left to right and it combines both Twitter and Facebook while Seesmic keeps them separate.

Dead battery

Just weeks after getting two new tyres, my car’s battery went dead yesterday. Therefore, more money but I was lucky that my colleagues offered to help take a look to make sure that it really was the car battery. I was also kind of lucky that the car was parked at home when the battery went dead. So, in a way, it’s good because Mee and I were not left stranded in the middle of the road but it’s bad because my breakdown cover policy does not include home start. We took a bus to work and we were late by half an hour. It has been quite a while since I last got a bus ride. And it was raining.

Anyway, my colleagues jumped started the battery and I drove to the office so that they could arrange a new battery installation for me. While they were taking a look at my car, some guy came over and asked if they do motorhome repair not knowing that they are my colleagues instead of some call-out mechanic guys. Well, the answer was a straight “no”. Money spent and everything is good now. Even the remote central locking is working well at the moment. Before that, I have to press a few times to unlock the doors. Sometime, I have to use the car key because the remote just don’t work.

WordPress and advertisement

I recently opened another personal blog with WordPress. The administration configuration page certainly looks better than what I have at the moment with this blog. In addition, my current web host doesn’t look stable and their service is getting worst. Hence, I am quite tempted to move this blog over to another hosting site and then transfer the posts here over to the site while keeping the domain name. It sounds simple but there is no easy way in transferring all my blog’s posts to WordPress.

I might be able to get away the complicated stuff by just moving to WordPress without moving to a new hosting site. However, that would mean I am most likely to lose all the advertising stuffs. Strictly speaking, WordPress does not allow its users to do any sort of money making related stuffs unless the site is hosted on our own and just utilising WordPress software.

It’s good in a sense that it will be pure blogging. But that is also the reason that I started writing another personal blog. This blog will continue as it is while the new one will be just pure blogging. Both blogs are personal blog and it’s really difficult at times as to determine which one to publish which posts. Somehow, I manage it just fine so far.

Referring to advertisement, I recently spotted an advertisement about adult diaper at disposablemedicalexpress.com on my blog. It’s a little bit rare but it reminded me of my grandmother. She was too old to manage things herself and therefore, she had to use adult diaper. I suppose there were not many types available in Malaysia back then but after browsing the advertised website, I was intrigued by the types of products available to help elderly through their difficult time. Every time I browse my blog, I will always look at the advertisement. Even though they are somehow displaying relevant information according to my posts, which is clever, somehow there will be some odd ones once a while.

Problem with my webhost …

I have given up. My current web host is not the same as when I first signed up with them. Back then, they have fewer servers and everything was excellent. Problems were solved quickly and responses were quick. Now, my other blog has been down for months already. I do not get comments’ notifications most of the time. When there’s a problem, they blame it on other companies and they can’t do anything about it. I am glad that this blog is based on one of the few more stable servers.

No matter what, I believe that I have to move on. I have to find a more reliable web host. That might incur some costs but I would prefer to have a piece of mind rather than havoc. Thankfully, the web address is something separate from the web host. That means I can move my blog to another host while keeping the same web address.
