Moving out …

Tags: ,

The weather is getting hotter and hotter towards the weekend. It was really hot in the office, even with the air conditioner was switched on. Well, we can’t really turn down the temperature too low because some of the colleagues are sitting in the direction where the air conditioner blows the cold air. Anyway, the place where I sit is a little bit hot and I have to have my sleeves up for the last few days. A walk to town left me perspiring the moment I entered my office. I don’t normally go to the town centre during lunch hour but Mee and I have started looking for a flat or an apartment to move into. We are a bit fed up with one of our housemates’ behaviour and we have longed to have our own place. Hence, Mee and I have been going to the many estate agents in the town centre to see if there’s any flats or apartments that are suitable. I can’t really believe that there are that many estate agents. There are at least 10-15 estate agents. The truth is, it’s really hard to find one that has the price, location and size that we both like. The rental prices here are comparable to London and we both are kind of worry about the extra bills that we will have to pay as well as the council tax.

You never know what you don’t know. So, I believe that we will eventually find one that we like and from there, we will be able to know what’s it like and the total cost of living.

Breast Cancer Foundation

Breast Cancer Foundation

Breast Cancer Foundation

Every year, my colleagues will make an effort in participating a breast cancer foundation walk. Prior to the day of the walk, they will ask for donations either by cash or on the web. The breast cancer foundation walk was over for this year and Mee and I did donate some money to one of our colleagues. On that day itself, they will all be wearing pinks. Some people would just wear a simple pink colour shirt or dress while some would make extra effort in wearing pink accessories or tiaras and etc. It’s all good fun I believe, as well as raising money for the breast cancer foundation. Next year, I might introduce them to this website called CafePress which sells all sorts of breast cancer t shirts and merchandise. It’s never a bad idea to have more choices especially web prices are a lot better and you do get to see many items at once. Right now, CafePress even has 40% sales on some merchandises without even the need of a coupon.

In addition to the sales, CafePress is also donating 10% to Breastcancer.org on sales of products which have a ‘BCA2011′ tag from 15th September 2011 to 31st October 2011.

Crazy weeks …

Tags: ,

For the last few weeks, there is only a word to describe my work; crazy. I haven’t had much time to do my own stuffs at home partly because I have used up my brain juice at work everyday. On weekends, I just want to have a good rest. There are so many different tasks waiting for me to do and it is kind of challenging as I need to manage my time much more efficiently. However, I do love the fact that I am doing the stuffs that I love. I always like to say that most of the time, people resign because of the management even though they like their job. I like my job but I dislike my management. It’s a matter of time where I might start thinking of doing something else. Anyway, it’s a stable job despite the many things that have been going on recently. I can’t ask for me in this period of time, can I?

Next week is going to be more challenging for me. It’s the deadline of all, if not most of my tasks. To be honest, my tasks never stop. It just keeps going on and on. The deadline is for me to put something up but there will always be other requested to improve it or even additional requests. If everything goes smoothly, I will have a good week. Otherwise, I will look older by ten years at the end of the week, that’s how crazy next week will be.

Good stuff out of junk

Tags: , , , ,

Ever since Mee and I bought our first travel insurance during our trip to Amsterdam, I reckon that we will be doing the same thing for all of our future trips. Considering that many countries are now so unpredictable, both economy and politic, it’s best to travel with an insurance rather than not. However, soon after we bought our second travel insurance from the trip to Greece, I start to receive more and more mails regarding all sorts of insurance, including emails of course. The tick of not agreeing on receiving third party information seems to work programmatically but not in reality. On the other hand, out of those emails, I do realise that there are some sites that compare cd type annuities instead of having to browse individual sites for information which can be quite time consuming.

Sometimes I just feel that internet is overloaded with tons of information but only a few of them are worthy to note. Take twitter for example, I get hundreds of new tweets every minute and to be honest, there will only be a couple of good ones. Junk mails are not necessary junk to me. They contain some good stuffs too but only if you have the time to browse them through.

Veho 360 rechargeable speaker

Veho 360 Rechargeable Speaker

Veho 360 Rechargeable Speaker

Just recently, I bought a Veho 360 rechargeable speaker at £5. I am still waiting for it to be delivered by Play.com and it has been 11 days since I placed the order. The website states its status as Awaiting Stock while the product page itself says Usually dispatched within 4-5 days. I wonder if I should contact the customer service about the mismatch information. I am not urgently in need to use the speaker and I just bought it because it’s cheap. I already have a 2.1 speaker for my desktop PC and I don’t think anyone would have regarded Veho 360 rechargeable speaker as a replacement for home speakers.

My idea is to hook it up to my PSP and play podcasts. Yeah, you are reading it right. I am using my PSP to play podcasts instead of playing games on it. Well, I suppose my iPad2 has really taken over as the main gaming machine. The huge 9.7″ just makes it irresistable though I have mentioned before that iOS games are still not as polish as true gaming consoles. PSP Vita is the one to watch and I was quite surprised when I found out that it’s only going to cost around £200 for a WiFi model only. I thought it was going to cost more being a Sony product especially PSP has so many enhancement over its predecessor. But for the time being, I am quite satisfied with iPad2 and iOS games are definitely cheaper than PSP Vita’s.

Rules are meant to be broken …

Tags: , ,

Sometimes, people say things but they never mean it. Unimportant matters can be let off but rules should not be taken lightly. Mee and I have been living in this house for almost four years now. Tenants move in and out. The shortest was about two weeks. The current batch is considered the longest tenants to have lived together in this house. Over the years, there were complaints about the cleanliness, spaces and noises. Rules keep on adding and until now, no one seems to care. Well, Mee and I care because we live downstairs and we can be quite easily affected by the noises that they make upstairs as well as when they are downstairs.

Our landlord has been quite accommodating. When we discussed about cleanliness, he hires a weekly cleaner. When we talked about spaces, he kind of ensures that some open spaces should not be used for personal space. When we spoke about noises, he announces that everyone should try to be quiet before ten in the morning and after ten at night.

All is well at the beginning. As time goes, every single rule is broken. There are three tenants upstairs and there’s only one who thinks that she owns the house. I call her Person A here. Surprisingly, our landlord is still very accommodating.

A couple of months back, we all have agreed that we need to clear our stuffs out of the living room. Now, half of the living room is filled with Person A’s stuffs. At one point, she even had a shoe rack in the living room. Our landlord didn’t care until I asked him whether or not it is appropriate to have a shoe rack in the living room. I was already hinting that there are too many stuffs in the living room. Either he chose to ignore my plea or he just forgets everything.

The previous cleaner went on maternity leave, hence, her job is now covered by Person A. So, what about the rules of not having a cleaner who lives in the same house? Even then, Person A couldn’t clean properly. Our landlord is so good to her that she doesn’t even need to clear the rubbish bin during cleaning. When the previous cleaner was still working, Person A used to clear her room’s rubbish by dumping them into the kitchen’s bin.

For the past few days, Person A even dared to take the kitchen door’s key with her and leave the house from the back door. We are all trapped in the house with only the front door to use. Person A never thought about the need of other tenants to use the backyard and the shed.

Person A used to be quite sensible but since we had a little bit of argument, she starts smoking and does stuffs which Mee and I would deem stupid. In other words, stupid stuffs! All the things that she said that she would not be doing, she is doing now. I guess she is showing her true colours now!
