Waiting

I still haven’t managed to get my hands on iPhone 5. It’s been four days since it was officially launched and it’s the same story everyday; out of stock. Mee and I went to the local Apple Store yesterday and we were told that people were still queuing every morning to buy iPhone 5. The reservation starts a couple of days ago but I am quite keen to know if anyone actually managed to reserve one. The funny thing is that every time you reserve, Apple will try to inform you before 9pm if successful. If not, you will have to try again the next day.

I am kind of tired of reading iPhone 5 reviews. They are all quite the same. My first impression of the iPhone 5 when I first fiddled with it in the Apple Store was that it’s very light. Too light that it seemed fragile though some online videos proved that iPhone 5 is indeed very strong. iOS 6 is pretty smooth, that goes the same for the iOS 5.0.1 running on my iPad2 and iOS 5.1.1 running on Mee’s iPhone 4. Well, if I have an iPhone 4S, I don’t see the need to upgrade it. All features in iOS 6 are available for iPhone 4S. My ideal smartphone currently should have a good camera and smooth OS. I tried the huge Samsung Galaxy SIII yesterday at Carphonewarehouse but I wasn’t too impressed by it. It may be great using it at first but later, I think I will find it too big. Android isn’t particularly smooth on it either though it has a quad core processor. Anyway, the more I talk about it, you are just going to think of me as another Apple fanboy. Maybe it’s true though. As much as I hated Apple in the past, I now realise how easy it is to integrate things with Apple products.

On the other hand, I still don’t quite know how online ads work. In theory, it should target ads which are relevant to what’s the user is browsing. I search quite frequently about iPhone 5 lately and sometimes, I got ads regarding guy harvey jewelry¬†or even insurance policy. Well, maybe it’s trying to match my search with iPhone 5 jewelry which didn’t really exist at the time I was searching. As for insurance, I believe that more and more people are taking mobile insurance and in New York City, the police are urging iPhone 5 users to register their smartphone serial numbers.

Decision ….

I am just going to talk about what’s everyone has been talking these days; iPhone 5. The preorder was finished in about 1 – 2 hours and many predicts that the retail sales will be finished by Sunday. Expect lots of people queuing up at Apple stores and various mobile network phone shops. I remembered being in town when the iPhone 4S was launched but I didn’t remember the sort of crazy queues as described on the internet. Maybe not every town would get long queues. Well, I will be checking out the iPhone 5 this Saturday and if it’s not out of stock, I will probably be getting one.

Okay, lots of people will say it’s worth it and lots of others will say I am crazy. I like to think that it’s worth it. I have considered various options and since I have a Macbook Air and an iPad, it seems sensible enough that my next mobile phone should be an iPhone. As much as I love my HTC Desire, it still couldn’t keep up. Honestly, if it had performed as well as iPhone 4, I wouldn’t think about getting a new mobile phone just yet. Bear in mind that HTC Desire is almost similar to iPhone 4.

I thought long and hard between Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One X and iPhone 5. My final ranking would be iPhone 5 first, followed by HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy SIII. I am quite surprised that HTC One X is not as popular as Samsung Galaxy SIII. I was a Samsung Omnia user and the build quality was really bad. My friends said that the use of plastic casing was to make the device as light as possible. Well, take a look at iPhone 5 and HTC One X. The materials used are far better than Samsung Galaxy SIII. Maybe it’s not fair to bring iPhone 5 into the discussion of weight as it is a smaller phone, but HTC One X is about the same size as Samsung Galaxy SIII. Anyway, I just don’t like Samsung mobile phone products anymore especially when looking at their advertisement as well as how they copied Apple Stores. I don’t see HTC doing the same thing?

The fact is, if I am now holding an Android tablet, I will be craving for iPad. Now that I have an iPad 2, it’s period. I don’t even crave for the new iPad. That’s the same case for iPhone 5. I don’t think that I will be getting another new mobile phone unless the iPhone that I am getting stops working or no longer supported by Apple’s iOS.

On another note, I also remembered that I once said that I will blog more now that I have a Macbook Air. It didn’t realise. I said that again when I got my iPad. It didn’t realise either. In fact, I blog lesser and lesser. Now I kind of hope that getting an iPhone 5 will get me blogging more frequently again. Well, time will tell.

iPhone 5 …

Apple’s event is over now. It’s not surprising at all that the leak photos on the internet look exactly the same as the real iPhone 5. I am not entirely sure how ground breaking it is or how the iPhone can compete against Samsung Galaxy SIII or HTC One X. Erm… not true, I do know. If I am going to buy an iPhone, I am actually after its operating system; the iOS, the latest being iOS 6. With Apple products, everything seems to integrate effortlessly. It’s almost as if the integration is the only advantage while there may be dozens of disadvantages when we rely on products made by a single company.

There may be a bigger picture but I don’t quite understand why Microsoft was once considered as monopolising the computer world whereas no one seems talk about the same thing with Apple. If you have installed almost every version of Windows, you will find that with the new version of Windows, you are now given a choice to install other types of internet browsers during installation. That I believe is one of the ways to stop Microsoft from monopolising users with their Internet Explorer.

Anyway, I will soon be reading reviews from various internet blogs. I am pretty sure there will be some mixed reviews. To be honest, I don’t really care much about what they may say. I am almost quite sure that I will be getting one but reading reviews is one of my methods to get-to-know a product before buying it. My HTC Desire has kind of disappointed me in some ways. Mee has been using iPhone for some time and I have an iPad myself. Hence, I know what to expect from the new iPhone and I just know it won’t disappoint me.

The new iPhone …

The hottest technology topic now is the iPhone 5, or the new iPhone or whatever Apple will call it when it launches. At first, I found it quite interesting reading the news by just googling for iPhone 5. It has now kind of confirmed that the new iPhone will have a 4″ screen, smaller dock connector, smaller SIM holder, different earphone jack location and bigger battery. Everything else pretty much stays the same as iPhone 4/4S. I believe that many Apple fans would love the idea that the rumours so far are not exactly true. I am not sure how smartphone users will react when they see the new iPhone as a copy of the old iPhone but just slightly longer. Sure enough when Apple introduces it, the new iPhone will be an exciting product no matter how resemblance it will be to iPhone 4/4S.

As time moves on, the world wide web is just circling the news around. A lot of tech bloggers have different opinions and a lot of the articles are just copying one another with no new information coming through. Well, even now, I am repeating most of the information about the new iPhone. The question now is not when will it arrive? but when I can hold one?

New iPhone leaked photo …

This is the latest leaked photo of what they called the new iPhone. Well, the screen is taller but not wider. I am not sure if I am attracted by the look of it but then again, it’s an unfinished product and may not be real at all. Some of the concept designs are really good but again, they are just concept designs which means it will take quite a bit of time for it to become a consumer product.

In addition, there are rumours that Apple have already started the production of the new iPhone and an 7th August announcement sounds quite possible. I think a lot of people are very excited by every new Apple products. Even when I wasn’t interested in Apple products, I was following their development progress, let alone now.

I used to say that who needs an iPhone. Essentially, it is just an iPod with phone capability. Well, I was wrong though not totally wrong. iPad is definitely an oversize iPod and since I already have an iPad, iPod will only be just another piece of equipment for me. Like I mentioned previously in my posts, I have developed an interest in bigger size screen gadgets. My HTC Desire is already 3.7″ and I can imagine my next mobile phone to be less than that. Anyway, the new iPhone is hopefully, going to be an exciting one and not like iPhone 4S.

Rewards …

No pain no gain. I have been working 7 days a week for half a month now and I wonder how much longer I can be doing this. Yes, I am getting paid for the overtime works but somehow, my brain doesn’t operate that good when I work beyond the normal 7.5 hours a day especially everyday. I guess I just have to stay strong and get some early sleep more often though I have failed to do so, so far. One of the things that keeps me going is what I will do once this project is finished. Reward comes to my mind and I suppose it’s time for me to upgrade my mobile phone! I have few other things in my wish list but mobile phone sounds like a better idea at the moment. I don’t want to be clogging my rented room with big electronic equipment, well, not until I got my own house.

I am currently waiting for the announcement of the new iPhone. Some says it will come as early as August and I am really excited about it. I still like my HTC Desire but the lack of internal space is really annoying. Also, whenever a newer version of ROM is out, I have to erase the contents of my mobile phone in order to update it. Hence, it involves backups and copying files here and there. Apple products on the other hand, uses iTunes. You either love it or hate it, I think. I stand in the middle but you can’t deny that life is a lot easier with it than without it. For my iPad, I can just plug it in and it backs up everything. For Mee’s iPhone, it does the same too. I don’t have to worry if I have backup my messages, contacts or apps list like when I am using Android. iTunes backs up almost everything. Now with iCloud, it’s even easier though it doesn’t work with Google Mail.

As I said previously, I have passed the stage where everything is an experiment. I look for things that make my life easier. I have good fun with Android but there are things that really frustrate me. Well, the latest leaked photo suggested that the new iPhone will have 4″ screen but I do hope that it will be bigger than 4″. My HTC Desire is already 3.7″ and an extra 0.3″ won’t make a huge difference.
